I started working on Highway 1 May 2023 with the talented artists in the LA Opera Costume shop. It was one of the best experiences of my professional career and my first opera!
I'm grateful to the director Kaneza Schaal and production designer Christopher Myers for asking me to be a part of this special project. This opera was composed by native Angeleno William Grant Still and this was the first time a major opera house has put on this opera.
William Grant Still is also African American and as we know there's not a lot of diversity in Opera so this was and is a big deal. I'm honored to have been a part of bringing this to the stage. Enjoy a bit of my process :).
